A bronze vessel with separate lid, formed as a standing elephant with cloisonné enamel scrolls, leaves, tendrils and other detailing to the body, bearskin(?) resting on the raised trunk; the lid formed as a smaller elephant on a discoid base with raised trunk; gilt detailing to the trunk, tusks, feet and eyes. 3.8 kg, 38cm (15"). From the family collection of a Hampstead gentleman; formerly acquired in the 1980s.
