Late Period, 664-332 BC. A group of three glazed composition wedjat amulet pendants in vibrant blue colour with black detailing for the brow and pupil. 13.4 grams total, 30-34mm (1 - 1 1/4"). From the private collection of jewellery designer Natalia Josca (1933-2007), New York, USA; her collection formed personally from 1972-early 1980s, much of which was later made into designer jewellery. The wedjat, or udjat, eye (literally 'the sound one') was later called the eye of Horus, after the eye of the falcon headed god Horus, which had been plucked out during one of his interminable battles with Seth, and then restored by Thoth. Horus was the later Greek Haroeris, the celestial falcon and great creator god, whose right eye was the sun, and left eye the moon, and is an ancient symbol of protection, royal power and good health.
