A FINE PAIR OF EARLY 19TH CENTURY FRENCH EMPIRE PERIOD GILT AND PATINATED BRONZE FIGURAL CANDELABRA DEPICTING MARS AND MINERVA each of the figures raised on a plinth base with ormolu foliate border, and stood beside the inverted baluster candelabra stem issuing three foliate wrapped, scrolling branches centred by a shorter, straight fourth, all with urn shaped nozzles cast with flower heads, 53cm high The important French designer Gerard-Jean Galle also produced a pair of Empire style candelabra depicting Mars and Minerva, circa 1820, an example was sold at Sotheby's, London, 12 May 2015, lot 79.
