This is a further piece of the tapestry fragment offered on the left. A dragon creature is depicted, with an inscription in black "Phitu", who was shot in the throat with an arrow. In itself a pretty little piece of a large and fine tapestry. Provenance: From South German aristocratic property. Formerly in the estate of Dr. Erwin Hensler (1882-1935), art historian, library and museum director. Since 1914 director of the royal copperplate engraving collection and the Prinzliche Sekundogeniturbibliothek in Dresden From 1924 also director of the art collections of the House of Wettin. Listed in an old inventory - extract is available as a copy: Received as a gift in the summer of 1923 from Ernst August von Hannover (1845-1923), 3rd Duke of Cumberland and Teviotdale. - Min. Ages.
