LOT 458 Two little angels making music. Late 1800s. H. Six inches. Gothic style. Lime tree, flattened at the back, partially glazed greenish and overlaid with gold bronze. Slight aging, min. rest. The two little angels formed the coronation of a larger group, e.g. a coronation of Mary. To glorify the event, they are represented with instruments. Angel figures are also found in smaller crucifixion groups, but in this context they were mostly depicted in prayer. Provenance: Formerly the Carl von Weinberg Collection (1861-1943). In 1949, he returned to his next of kin in the succession of Richard von Szilvinyi and has been in direct family ownership ever since. Formerly Weinberg's Villa Waldfried, Frankfurt a.M.
