LOT 531 Brusco, Cornelio (attr.). Naples about 1588 - about 1635. 36 x 46.5 cm. The Israelites in the desert (Moses strikes water from the rock). Oil/copper. Cornelio Brusco has only become better known in recent years. Until then his works were mainly attributed to Filippo Napoletano and Scipione Compagno. His preferred pictorial themes were biblical stories, scenes of paradise, the purgatory or Troy, which were not yet widespread in Naples and aroused the interest of his clients. His oeuvre shows stronger influences by Tintoretto, which probably indicates a longer stay in Venice. The work is published in : Spunti per conversare 9, Milan, Galleria Nella Longari, November 2006 by Giancarlo Sestieri.
