Old Roman wide archway overgrown with shrubs, through which one looks on the left at a shaded staircase, to the right a view of a slope with green cypress trees. In the foreground left, on the floor, remains of an ancient column. The second painting shows a large, defiant castle complex, designed as a moated castle, partly reminiscent of Pierrefonds Castle in France. The castle in warm beige and ochre tones, against a high light blue sky with partly reddish cloud formations due to the light of the setting sun. Romantic painting in restrained colours.
