A VERY LARGE 'BODHISATTVA AND IMMORTAL' CORAL CARVING, LATE QING DYNASTY China, 19th - early 20th century. Carved and incised in deep relief to depict Guanyin together with a boy and an immortal, standing on a bridge amid crashing waves, lotus flowers and swimming fish, the railing with seven shou characters. Provenance: From the collection of Georg Weifert (1850-1937). Thence by descent in the same family. Weifert was a Serbo-Austrian industrialist and the first governor of the Federal Bank of the Kingdom of Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia. Condition: Old wear, some chips and losses. Several fractures with old repairs.
