A white marble devil shaped standard bearer, 18th century Florentine sculptor, height cm 70
white marble, height 70 cm, In 1578 Giambologna was commissioned by Bernardo Vecchietti to design the new facade of the family palace. At the end of the work he designed a devil-shaped bronze banner door which was used to display the banner with the family insignia on holidays. This sculpture became so popular that the palace was renamed "Palace of the Devil". The original bronze is kept in the Bardini Museum and was replaced by a copy. The "Diavolino" was very successful and we have news of some reproductions since the 17th century.
