Great Mogul Qur'an of the 17th century
Arabic manuscript on paper of 316 leaves of fourteen lines per page, calligraphy in "naskh'" in black ink, sura titles in golden "ray'han", separations of verses marked by a golden dot. A double illuminated frontispiece decorates the beginning of the Qur'an, with the title in medallions and the texts of the 'fatihat' and the beginning of the 'Baqara' in 'naskh', in clouds with a golden background.
The manuscript was bound in the 19th century with additions to the illumination on about a dozen pages. Bound in embossed brown morocco with scrolls, fleurons and arabesques on both sides.
