Miniature painted in gouache enhanced with gold on cardboard. The raja is standing in profile in ceremonial dress, wearing a transparent white gown underlined by a wide orange and gold belt, wearing a talwar, a shield and a decorated turban, on a green background. Nagari inscription in the upper red margin.

On the back, an annotation mentions the Collection Bigay, judge, member of the United Nations, and Unesco.



Padam Singh reigned from 1720 to 1742 over the state of Ghanerao, situated on the borders of the Mewar and Marwar. He was an important patron of the arts. Several portraits of Padam Singh have survived, including one attributed to the artist Chhajju, dated 1725, kept at the Prince of Wales Museum in Mumbai (inv.no.54.32, cf. Archer 1960, pl.57). Another painting attributed to Mannu, also dated 1721, is kept at the Victoria & Albert Museum, (inv.no.IS.12-1978).
