|笔筒取天然硬木截取而成，随形而作，其年轮纹理犬牙差互，瘿瘤明显，无需雕琢，取其自然形态，外部亦凹凸不平，显现出天然之美感，经岁月摩挲而包浆莹润，呈现古拙之感。|明代文人朱彝曾作《笔筒铭》：“笔之在案，或侧或颇，犹人之无仪，筒以束之，如客得家，闲彼放心，归于无邪。”明清文人多寄情于山水，崇尚自然灵性之美，而在设计制作笔筒时也不事雕琢，以光素为多，他们突出、强调的便是这种木材纹理的自然美和书卷气，此类返璞归真的文房雅玩正契合了当时文人的这种意蕴，可资品味。
