23rd-20th century BC. A bronze discoid stamp seal with openwork design, accompanied by a typed and signed by the late W.G. Lambert, late Professor of Assyriology, University of Birmingham, 1970-1993 which states: 'Stamp Seal of Bronze, 69 x 68 x 21.5mm. This is round with flat face and flat back, on which a handle of inverted V-shape is mounted. The design, which is both compartmented and open-work, consists of three heraldic eagles in somewhat abstract rendering joining at their legs in the centre and forming a circle within a plain outer band. One could also interpret the eagles as joining at their heads. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. It is a large piece, and in quite good condition, only the outer rim being dented and a little damaged. The metal has been conserved.' 76 grams, 69mm (2 3/4").
