An interesting small bronze stirrup mount of Williams's Type 3 Group 6 with D-shaped plaque, narrow ledge to the rear with two fixing rivets; the plaque with central raised mask surrounded by hatching, addorsed beasts above and attachment hole. Cf. Williams, D., Late Saxon Stirrup-Strap Mounts, York, 1997, item 441, for type. 18.5 grams, 31mm (1 1/4"). Property of a gentleman; acquired in the 1970s. The design represents a stylised mask with hair and beard, with two animals above, possibly wolves.
