1983-2014 AD. Obv: blank. Rev: blank. Edge: with incuse DECUS ET TUTAMEN inscription. See S. J1-J35 for types. 9.47 grams. . Property of a Kent, UK collector; from circulation. The method of manufacture for £1 coins by the Royal Mint was first to punch out the blank; the blank then passed through the coin presses where dies stamped the obverse and reverse designs and the edge milling lines and thence to a machine that placed the inscription wording to the edge; this example clearly missed the dies and entered the last stage as a blank, creating an interesting error. Several issues of the mono-metallic £1 carry this particular edge inscription, from 1983 through to the last currency issue in 2014. [No Reserve]
