A French gilt bronze casket in Renaissance Revival taste, circa 1875, attributable to the workshop of 'A.B. Paris', the seated amorino finial mounted to a hinged cartouche form cover relief cast with trophies and dolphins, above a conforming body cast with draped figures, trailing foliage and masks, on toupie feet, 23cm high, 29cm wide, 21cm deep The present casket is probably by the hand of the Parisian bronze foundry whose works are often mysteriously signed 'A.B'. Though not much is known about the foundry, its output included numerous similarly ornate caskets characterised by detailed relief cast designs.
