ELEGANT BUREAU-PLAT,
Louis XV, Paris ca. 1750, signed Dubois. Jacques Dubois. Maître 1742.
Tulipwood, amaranth and other types of wood, inlaid in reserves with flowering branches and broad borders. Top with brown, gold-impressed leather lining, edged in bronze. Curved legs, bronze sabots. Front with 3 drawers. Same, but sham arrangement on verso. Fine gilt bronze mounts, designed as rocailles, scrolls and leaves. 1 key.
161 x 88 x 80 cm.
Outer drawers, restored. The veneer of the drawer fronts, later. Marquetry with cracks. Top, restored. Minor losses. Gilding, rubbed. Leather with signs of use.

J. Dubois was born in Pontoise in 1694 and died in Paris in 1763. He is one of the most important ebenists of the Louis XV era; already during his lifetime, he was awarded the highest "notoriété". He supplied the Royal Court, the high nobility and palaces throughout Europe.
