landscape painting class with Maximilian Joseph Haushofer. Based in Vienna from 1864, Chwala was one of the most respected Czech-Austrian landscape painters of his generation. From 1876 he was represented at the exhibitions at the Vienna Künstlerhaus, from 1881-1896 at the Austrian Art Association. A large exhibition of works in 2011 in the Prague National Gallery led to a rediscovery of Chwala and a significant increase in importance on the art market. Adolf Chwala (1836-1900), studierte ab 1851 an der Prager Akademie, 1854/55 in der Klasse
für Landschaftsmalerei bei Maximilian Joseph Haushofer. Ab 1864 in Wien ansässig, gehörte Chwala zu den angesehendsten tschechisch-österreichischen Landschaftsmalern seiner Generation. Seit 1876 war er bei den Ausstellungen im Wiener Künstlerhaus vertreten, 1881-1896 im Österreichischen Kunstverein. Durch eine große Werkschau 2011 in der Prager Nationalgalerie kam es zu einer Wiederentdeckung Chwalas und auch auf dem Kunstmarkt zu einer deutlichen Bedeutungssteigerung.
