scholarship in 1879 as one of the best students at the Modena Art Academy, which he spent first in Rome and later in Florence, where he was permanently resident from 1884. Eugenio Zampighi (1859-1944), bedeutender italienischer Genremaler, gewann 1879 als einer
der besten Schüler der Kunstakademie Modena ein dreijähriges Stipendium, das er zunächst in Rom und später in Florenz verbrachte, wo er ab 1884 dauerhaft ansässig war. Sein Hauptsujet waren realistisch gemalte, feinfühlig beobachtete Szenen aus dem ländlichen, idyllischen Volksleben, das er in sehr subtiler, sympathischer Weise beobachtete.
