This work represents a young boy applying himself to reading. He seems concentrated and absorbed by the work. The tones used are pastel and dark, except for the bouquet of flowers, composed of very bright and opaque colours and positioned to the left of the character. The outside landscape, also coloured, invites itself into this dark room through a window at the end of the desk. Alix Aymé perfectly mastered the technique of painting on silk.
