HANGING CARTEL HANGING IN MARQUETRY SAINT MARTHE ET PIERRE GAUDRON, THE CASE ATTRIBUTED TO ANDRE-CHARLES BOULLE, circa 1718-1720in ground gold-plated bronze and brown tortoiseshell veneer and brass. It opens to a glazed leaf, with a rocaille moulding, topped by a garland of falling leaves. The round dial with white enamelled cartouches and blue Roman numerals for the hours and Indian numerals for the minutes, with an openworked cloud at the bottom, with a white enamelled cartouche, signed GAUDRON PARIS. It is surmounted by a putto with a commander's staff sitting on a cloud of falling foliage and at the cushioning it presents Uranie, goddess of astronomy, holding a scroll resting on her knees, with a representation of the six-pointed star of David. Feet made of acanthus leaves. The cul-de-lampe with a woman's mask planched at the spandrels dies in a flared baluster with foliage and seeds. (A few accidents and misses, movement changed).
