HANGING TO BE HANGED, CLOCK GOD OF THE SENIOR (1668-1748/49), THE CASE ATTRIBUTED TO ANDRE-CHARLES BOULLE, BEGINNING OF THE REGENCY ERA (1715-1720) The wooden case is made of oak wood, veneered with warm sea turtle brown tortoise shell inlaid with brass floral motifs. On damping, the victorious fame blowing in the trunk it has just stolen from the giant Pallas. Under the dial, two leafy, flowery branches fall out, in their middle, an opening in which was fixed an enamelled cartouche or legend (missing) on which the watchmaker's name was painted. The movement has an escapement with a meeting wheel, rod and pallets, an ordinary small anchor escapement, a silk-wire suspension, a light balance, striking at the passing of the hours and the half on a stamp. It rests on claw feet surmounted by acanthus leaves. A Regence period cartel clock, by Jean Goddé l'ainé attributed to André-Charles Boulle.
