ATTRIBUTED TO THE RIBBALIZED OR RIBALIZED HOUSE, NAPOLEON IIICabinet Era, in walnut moulded and carved with foliated and flowered scrolls with sea-green marble slabs. The upper part opens with two leaves and three drawers. It is decorated in the centre with antique characters with two theatres decorated with Roman warriors in niches framed by fluted and roughened Ionian columns from asperges ; the lower part is decorated with vine branches. The broken pediment features a sea-green marble cabochon in a medallion surmounted by a mask of a bearded man supported by pilasters and stylised chimeras with an antique woman resting on a scrolling console on either side. The lower part opens with a drawer and two secret drawers in the belt, the uprights in the shape of winged sphinxes resting on a spacer shelf. The back is decorated in the centre with a reserve depicting Venus. Feet in the shape of crushed wafers. To be compared with an almost identical model by Henri-Auguste Fourdinois presented at the 1867 Universal Exhibition, now kept at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris.
