An undated archaistic bronze bust of Serapis in 2nd-3rd century AD style, with a typical stern expression, robed and bearded with modius corn-measure to the crown of his head, ribbed lug to the lower edge; after the original wooden statue by Bryaxis in the Temple of Serapis, Alexandria. 154 grams, 88mm (3 1/2"). Property of a London lady, part of her family's Swiss collection; formerly acquired in the 1980s. [No Reserve]
