* TWO QAJAR GOLD-DAMASCENED STEEL EWERS PROPERTY FROM AN IMPORTANT PRIVATE EUROPEAN COLLECTOR Iran, mid to late 19th century Each of pyriform shape, resting on a splayed circular foot, comprising one ewer with a tall tapering neck, with a tall faceted triangular stopper, on the sides a sinuous handle and a curved spout, the exterior engraved with lush rosette and floral sprays framed within gold-damascened cusped cartouches and arabesque medallions, further gilding in a variety of motifs on the neck, stopper and handle, 28.5cm high; and a similar ewer, with a sinuous handle with a stylised dragon head terminal on one side and a tall curved spout on the latter, the spout mouth surrounded by a circular medallion and topped by a flame, the cartouches showcasing birds amidst foliage and flowers, 30.5cm high.
