A set of five chataku (saucers for the sencha tea ceremony) Taisho era (1912-1926), circa 1920 Circular, each variously decorated with a cicada, crickets, a mantis, a beetle, and a prawn in katakiri-bori, signed Tessai tozo (Production supervised by Tessai) and with the artist's kao (cursive monogram), the underside stamped Zoroku Ko tsukuri (Made Zoroku the Recluse) With a double wood tomobako storage box inscribed on the exterior of the cover: Junsuzu enshiki chataku (Pure tin circular tea saucers) and sealed Heian Zoroku (Zoroku of Kyoto); on the exterior cover of the inner box Junsuzu enshiki chataku; and on the interior cover of the inner box Cho Manjun no sakui o naratte Zoroku seizo (Made by Zoroku after a design by Zhang Wanshun) and sealed Zoroku Koji (Zoroku the Recluse), and Kasuga sanroku Saishoseisha Tessai (Tessai, in the Studio of Supreme Precision at the foot of Mount Kasuga) with the artist's distinctive kao 3 7/8in (9.8cm) diameter
