Attributed to Balthasar van Lemens (Flemish, 1637-1704) Portrait Head of a Gentleman with an Earring, Against a Green Background Unsigned, attributed to Balthasar van Lemens on two gummed labels affixed to the stretcher and on a copper tag affixed to the back of the frame. Oil on canvas, 15 3/8 x 12 3/8 in. (39.0 x 31.5 cm), framed. Condition: Lined, craquelure, varnish discoloration. N.B. Balthasar van Lemens was born in Antwerp but was active in England. Noted for his historical works, little is known of his portraiture. The intimate feel of the painting at hand suggests a possible self-portrait. Provenance: The estate of George Way. Estimate $500-700 Framed dimensions are 20 x 17 x 1 1/4 inches. Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
