A pair of Louis XVI girandoles in fire-gilt bronze, Paris, circa 1780/90 The original fire-gilt bronze with a polished and matte finish, with openwork and fine chiselling in places. The two-armed girandoles on a fluted stem, the lower section embellished with pendants of wreathed foliage, fruits and pine cones. The fluted sconces with acanthus leaf motifs and tendrils. The sockets with covered pans. Culminating in a neo-classical vase decorated with flames, rams' heads and drapery pendants. Height 53 cm. The model probably designed by Jean-Louis Prieur. Literature: Ottomeyer, Hans und Pröschel, Peter: Vergoldete Bronzen. Die Bronzearbeiten des Spätbarocks und Klassizismus, Klinkhardt & Biermann, Munich p. 173, no. 3.5.6. The girandoles illustrated in this reference work can be found in the Landesmuseum Württemberg, Stuttgart. The Royal Palace in Stockholm has another version. A similar pair of three-armed girandoles is on display in Marie-Antoinette's boudoir in the Petit Trianon and illustrated in "Mobilier et arts décoratifs en France aux XVIIIe siècle" by John Whitehead, p. 16. Zweiflammige Appliken mit einem kannelierten Schaft, im unteren Bereich mit Blatt- und Fruchtkranzgehänge sowie Pinienzapfen. Die Wandleuchter mit Akanthusblatt- und Rankenmotiven sowie kanneliert. Die Tüllen mit abgedeckten Schalen. Als krönender Abschluß eine klassizistische Vase mit Flammen, Widderköpfen und Draperiegehänge dekoriert. Höhe 53 cm. Das Modell wohl von Jean-Louis Prieur.
