A large early Victorian Biblical needlework sampler by Susanna Sagar, aged 12, dated December 1838, silk embroidered with a flowering urn, architecture, flowers and a scene with Christ and the Samaritan woman at the well, with Bible verse and signature in lower register, in birds-eye maple frame, 69 cm high, 71cm wide overall; and another Victorian needlework sampler, by Sarah Thomas, worked in colourful wools with animals and a central Tree of Knowledge flanked by Adam and Eve, in a birds-eye veneered frame, 85 x 69cm overall Provenance: Private Collection from a Grade II listed Country House, Oxfordshire The sampler by Sarah Thomas was purchased by the current vendor from Stonehouse Antiques, Painswick, Gloucestershire, 9.10.1990 (£500).
