'Ali bin Muhammad bin 'Ali Al-Qurashi known as al-Qalasadi al-Basti (D. 1486 AD): Kashf al-Asrar fi 'Ilm Huruf al-Ghibar, Morocco, 19th century, an important work on algebraic symbols, Arabic manuscript on paper, 50ff. as numbered plus 10 flyleaves, each folio with 16ll. of black maghribi script, titles and important words picked out in red, blue and green, occasional tables throughout the text, text within red and blue rules, opening folio with gold and polychrome illuminated cartouche, with catchwords and foliotation, in gilt green morocco binding, text panel 15.3 x 10.3cm.; folio 22 x 17.1cm. Provenance: Christie's, South Kensington, 10 October 2014, lot 366. The work contains an introduction on figures (ghubar) and four parts: 1- arithmetic of integers, 2- fractions, 3- roots and 4- algebra and theory of perfect numbers. The colophon indicates that it was composed in Cairo, in the district of Ibn Abi al-Wafa, in 852 AH/1448-49 AD. Please refer to department for condition report
