Nur al-Din ‘Abd al-Rahman Jami (d. 1492 AD): Layla wa Majnun, signed Sultan Muhammad Khandan, Safavid Iran or Afghanistan, dated beginning of Rabi’ I AH 921/April 1505AD, Persian manuscript on paper, with 15ll. of fine black nastaliq script arranged in two vertical columns per page, a central band of flowers between the two columns alternating pages in black on gold and white on blue, headers with fine polychrome floral decoration on a cobalt ground, triangular panel to numerous pages with similar decoration, opening bifolio with text within cloudbands on a red hatched ground with dividing panel of finely painted polychrome and gold flowers on a black ground, the outer border and header with gold and polychrome flowers on a cobalt ground, final bifolio and colophon giving the name of the celebrated scribe Sultan Muhammad Khandan and the date of the beginning of Rabi’ I AH 921/April 1515 AD and similarly decorated, with owner's seal impressions, brown morocco binding with tooled and gilded spandrels and central medallion, folio 21.9 x 12,.6cm Please refer to department for condition report
