CHOSHUZAN: A FINE PAIR OF SATSUMA VASES WITH HAWK AND PINE TREE By Choshuzan, signed Choshuzan Japan, early 20th century, Meiji period (1868-1912) Of baluster form with a short broad neck, everted lip, and recessed base, painted in polychrome and gilt enamels with a hawk on a pine tree branch with leaves, the shoulder and lower body with various gilt and polychrome borders, all against a fine craquelure ground. Signed in gold underneath CHOSHUZAN. HEIGHT 22.3 cm each Condition: Excellent condition with minor wear to the enamels. Provenance: Formerly in the collection of a Portuguese ambassador to Japan, after receiving them as part of an official gift.
