A substantial terracotta statuette of a standing nude female with left hand resting on the midriff, elaborate slashed headdress and pierced ears, bulging lentoid eyes and pinched nose, slashed collar and belt; right hand forming a cup or scoop (to accept libations?); mounted on a custom-made stand. 1.5 kg, 37.5cm including stand (14 3/4"). On the US art market, 1990s; acquired on the German art market in 2011; previously with Pierre Bergé & Associés, Archéologie, Paris, 16 December 2015, Lot 166 (14,000-16,000 euros); accompanied by copies of the relevant Pierre Bergé catalogue pages, copy of Art Loss Register certificate report number S00122251 and a copy of the Thermoluminescence analysis report by Laboratory Ralf Kotalla dated 18 March 2011; this lot has been checked against the Interpol Database of stolen works of art and is accompanied by IADAA certificate number no.20.03.202011.54.
