A bronze ring showing on the large oval bezel a Greek Hoplite, kneeling, protecting himself from the enemy with a large oplon shield, the spear in his left hand, on the head a possibly a pilos helmet. See Boardman, J., Greek Gems and Finger Rings. Early Bronze Age to Late Classical, London, 1970, pp.213,345 and cat. no.954. 8.15 grams, 23.25mm overall, 20.17mm internal diameter (approximate size British S, USA 9, Europe 20, Japan 19) (1"). From a private collection formed in the Netherlands; previously in a European collection formed prior to 1980.
