Description
Translation provided by Youdao
6th century BC. An archaic bronze statuette of a girl, standing, the right arm with finger raised to the mouth in a gesture of youth and innocence, wearing a long tunic with short sleeves, braided hair falling to the shoulders and down the back. Cf. Rolland, H., Bronzes Antiques de Haute Provence, Paris, 1965, item 198ff, for similar archaic small bronze statuettes of men and women. 116 grams, 81mm (3 1/4"). From a private collection formed in the Netherlands; previously in a European collection formed prior to 1980. Etruscan female dresses were sleeveless, short-sleeved or long-sleeved with varying hem lengths, sometimes with an arch cut over the feet. Bright colours abounded with cloaks, bodices, and short jackets in red, royal blue, pale green, orange, yellow, and sometimes with bold horizontal stripes, vertical stripes, or polka dots.
