A mixed group of lunate pendants comprising: one bronze with tapering crescentic body, bulbous terminals and integral suspension loop; one silver(?) with tapering open hoop and ribbed tubular suspension loop; one silver(?) with tapering body, applied granules to one face and flared suspension loop. 17.8 grams total, 23-41mm (1 - 1 1/2"). Property of a London gentleman; from his private collection formed before 2000. A lunar pendant was worn by girls in ancient Rome as an apotropaic amulet to protect them against evil forces. The equivalent pendant for boys was the bulla. [3, No Reserve]
