2nd-3rd century AD. A bronze double-nozzled suspension lamp, central filling-hole with radiate shaped crown, flat raised edge surrounding the central part, on top of body, two suspension rings, semicircular nozzles with notched shaped ends, vertical side of each nozzle tip divided by a horizontal groove into two parts, each with slanted notches; flat circular base, the bottom consisting of a flat outer ring. See Bussière J., Lindros Wohl B., Ancient Lamps in the J. Paul Getty Museum, Malibu, 2017. 423 grams, 15.2cm (6"). From a private collection formed in the Netherlands; previously in a European collection formed prior to 1980. This kind of lamp, probably made in Italy, was designed to have lids, usually a separate circular stopper. They were hanging lamps, attached to the roof by means of the suspension lugs from which two short lengths of S-link chain extended to a ring with further S-link. They were usually destined for domestic use or ecclesiastical employment.
