1st-2nd century AD. A bronze pincer brooch comprising a round-section pin tapering to a point towards the catchplate and flaring into a broader, flatter terminal at the head; deep bow broader at the centre and narrower at the ends, forming the catchplate at the foot and the second half of the 'pincer' at the head, decorated with a shallow incised design comprising four bands of chevrons either side of a central six-armed 'star', a ring-and-dot in each of its six segments, all contained within two double horizontal collars; pin in situ and articulate. 8.8 grams, 77mm (3"). Property of a North London gentleman; previously in a private German collection.
