3rd -2nd century BC. A substantial lead female figurine standing on a fragmented base with her weight on the right leg, the left leg bent, right arm holding a patera, the left arm raised; wearing a detailed folded chiton gathered by a belt beneath the breasts. See Ferruzza, M.L.,Ancient Terracottas from South Italy and Sicily in the J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles, 2016, for similar statuette in terracotta. 242 grams, 10cm (4"). From a private collection formed in the Netherlands; previously in a European collection formed prior to 1980. This statuette was made from a reusable mould, and originally would have been painted with bright colours. Thousands of votive statuettes, according to the South Italian Greek style, were continuously produced, even after the definitive Roman conquest of the Italian Peninsula and Sicily, completed after the Second Punic War.
