Description
Translation provided by Youdao
1st century AD. A bronze oil lamp with star-shaped handle, globular body, large filling-hole with raised lip, long nozzle with flat top and bevelled sides, flanked on each side by two sharp pointed ends instead of knobs; inner nozzle ends defined by post-cast filing, raised round base making a low foot. See Bussière J. & Lindros Wohl B., Ancient Lamps in the J. Paul Getty Museum, Malibu, 2017, similar specimen with different handle on p.456. 153 grams, 11cm (4 1/4"). From a private collection formed in the Netherlands; previously in a European collection formed prior to 1980. These lamps were made in provincial workshops of Anatolia, although this specimen presents some affinity with the lamps of the Pompeii collection.
