Faceted by Jay Medici Realgar is an arsenic sulfide mineral which is sometimes called "ruby sulphur" or "ruby of arsenic". It occurs in monoclinic crystals often in association with the related mineral orpiment. Its name comes from Arabic rahj al-ġār meaning 'powder of the mine'. Realgar was used by manufacturers to create the color white in fireworks prior to the availability of powdered metals such as aluminium, magnesium and titanium. Along with orpiment, realgar was used as a significant item in trade along the Silk Route as it was used as a red paint pigment and as a medicine. Rarely seen in faceted form, this large, gemmy Realgar has been faceted as an emerald-cut, RHC4358. The stone was custom-cut by rare gemstone cutter Jay Medici of Ohio from rough that Rock provided.
