A presentation George III silver teapot and associated stand, the teapot by Joseph Scammell, London 1793, the stand by John Gold 1796, oval form, bright-cut foliate scroll decoration and borders, scroll handle, the domed flush-hinged cover with an oval finial, engraved with two foliate cartouches, initialled, inscribed 'Presented by the Owners of the Ship Betsey to Captain John Quinton for his great care and attention for the interests of the ship', the stand of oval form, reeded border, similar decoration, on four bracket feet, length handle to spout 32cm, approx. weight 25.8oz. (2) Betsey was a ship of 200 tons, which was built in Nova Scotia in 1789, and was owned by Bullock. Captain Quniton sailed her on the London to Lisbon route. She had some damages in 1792, which were repaired and was classed A1 at Lloyds. Provenance: purchased from W. H. Lane and Son, Penzance, 16/17 March 1976, lot 1197.
