Description

Studio Alchimia (1976-1992), a group of water glasses c.1985 Comprising: a set of 6 double gourd shaped glasses; together with a set of 6 double gourd shaped glasses with flared necks; and a set of 4 glasses with a bulbous middle and flared neck; and a set of 4 glasses with cylindrical middle and a flared neck, each engraved on the underside of the foot with a rod and dot pattern 12 cm high (20) (one of each of shape glass illustrated) Property from a Private Collection NOTE: Studio Alchimia was a design collective founded, pre-Memphis, in 1976 in Milan by Alessandro Guerriero and his sister Adriana Guerriero-Reali. Designers Alessandro Mendini, Ettore Sottsass, Michele De Lucchi, Bruno and Giorgio Gregori, Paola Navone, Daniela Puppa, Andrea Branzi, and Franco Raggi all contributed to the work of the group. They encompassed Architecture, theatrical design, decorative arts, product and clothing designs and their ethos was at counterpoint to the aesthetic of the Bauhaus and the other industrial and minimalist designers. They were interested in a colour and the play between forms and were happy to embrace modern technologies. The Studio Alchimia closed in 1992. Small fold in the glass on the foot of one of the 4 glasses with the bulbous middle - but this is not damaged as it was how it was made. Light natural wear to the bases. Overall good condition.
