Frank Wright Bourdillon had a short painting career of about twelve years, most of which were spent in the artist's colony of Newlyn. Bourdillon was engrossed in the drama and saga of Elizabethan seafaring and painted carefully orchestrated Elizabethan sets in the open air using models dressed in period costume.
