A stoneware vase by Alfred Renoleau With slightly iridescent glaze and depictions of children in relief. Incised signature "ARenoleau A". A minor chip to the base. H 50.8 cm. Alfred Renoleau (1854 - 1930), c. 1900 - 1910. Alfred Renoleau (1854 - 1930) trained as a hairdresser but discovered the works of Palissy in around 1878 during a trip to Bordeaux, where he visited a ceramics exhibition. From then on, he spent his nights and spare time trying to reproduce them in a kiln he had built himself in the attic of his house. After 1891, he professionalized his passion and founded a company. Around 1900 he started to produce artisanal ceramics together with his nephew. Provenance Villa Clara Schumann, Frankfurt. Der gelernte Friseur Alfred Renoleau (1854 - 1930) entdeckte die Werke von Palissy um 1878 während einer Reise nach Bordeaux, wo er eine Keramikausstellung besuchte. Von da an versuchte er in seiner Freizeit und nachts, sie in einem von ihm selbst gebauten Ofen auf dem Dachboden seines Hauses zu reproduzieren.
