谢墨，浙江余姚人，农历1939年冬出生。从小随父亲和家姐学习书法和国画，师从于书法大师沙孟海先生，国画大师陆俨少先生，从此与中国书画结下了不解之缘。1962年毕业于武汉艺术学院，进修于中央戏剧学院舞台设计专业，其后入武汉歌舞剧院，从事舞台美术工作。
