Ca.4000 BC. Western Asiatic. Attractive brown stone Tell Brak Eye Idol consisting of a square body with slight shoulders, a short neck and two incised eyes. Idols of this kind are common in Sumer, the earliest known civilization in Western Asia. Wide eyes are symbolic of piety to the gods in much of ancient Western Asiatic art. Excellent condition.
