Ca. 618 - 907 AD. Chinese Tang Dynasty. A ceramic, hollow molded dragon head. The dragon is depicted with its lips pulled back from its teeth snarling, and fangs bared, a short beard, triangular ears and three centred horns, one of which is longer and thinner than the others. Traces of the original pigment survive. Chinese Tang Dynasty. Dragons are a symbol of power, strength and good fortune in Chinese art. The Tang dynasty ruled most of China between AD 618 and 907, and this period is widely viewed as an era of progress and stability, during which many scientific and artistic advances were made.
