C. 700-1100. Viking Age. A bronze amulet featuring a disc shape with an integral suspension loop. The central section depicts two stylised ravens. The ravens probably represent Hugin and Munin (pronounced “HOO-gin” and “MOO-nin”; Old Norse Huginn and Muninn), two ravens in Norse mythology who are helping spirits of Odin, the god of knowledge, war and battle. Excellent condition; wearable. Size: L:27mm / W:22mm ; 5.5g; Provenance: From an old London collection formed in the 1990s.
