Dimensions; 19.25in H x 15.625in W x 15.625in D PROVENANCE: from the Estate of Senior Chief Petty Officer Aviation Engineer Thomas Clanton, USN Ret., (1935-2019), of Scout Trace, Blairsville and a former lifelong resident of Sarasota, FL. The son of the late Willard Clanton and the late Karen Clanton. Tom was a veteran of the US Navy having given thirty years of service for his country. While in the USN he was stationed in Olongapo Philippines and at Ching Chaun Kang Air Base in Taiwan flying aboard the P3 Orion. The P3 was used for anti-submarine operations and as reconnaissance missions. Since then, Tom begins fascinated and collecting many Oriental Chinese Antiques and Fine Arts. Pair of Magnificent Chinese Ming Dynasty Wucai porcelain lidded jars. The shape having thick potted body, sturdily potted in a bulbous body, gently tapered on shoulder toward prominent straight neck with wide opening, covered with cylindrical lid and crowned with simply bud finial, raised on flat base. All in a clean white underglaze base color, hand painting in Wucai or five-color shades and tones, brightly painted in Wucai design, Opaque colors around the exterior, between the filling motif decorated in colorful vivid sgraffito ground of uptala. Depicted five-claws dragon flying amidst flames with a ruyi cloud, above cresting wavy Lishui water, flower blooms with intercluding vines. The Dome decorated similar with the main body added auspicious pattern. Dragon is the symbol of the Emperor, the Son of Heaven, eternity, Yang and Yin, male vigor and fecundity, the Li-Shui wave pattern which is known to be the abode of dragons. The composition is sophisticated and the colors are a feast for the eye. The glaze appearance resembled the texture of an orange peel "ju-pi" (chu-p'i) or a chicken skin. The clay is very fine, with a brilliant glaze finish that was applied by a meticulous, the shape is uniformly proportioned.The uderbase remain unglazed, revealled the creme-orange ground and cutted edges.
